7th ABSL Conference – the stunning success

On June 28th-29th, Katowice hosted the most awaited business service sector event in the region. As the emotions have settled, it is now the time for some important messages.

First and foremost, the Conference had gathered nearly 1.000 participants – and we would like to wholeheartedly thank each and every one of you for being a part of this amazing experience. We are honoured that you decided to be with us in Katowice on such important days.

The brightest of bright points of the Conference was definitely the presentation by our Special Guest, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, 66th US Secretary of State 2005-2009. As an expert in the field of politics and Central and Eastern Europe, Dr. Rice complimented Poland’s growth and changes occurring in the country over the course of the years.

We also had the honour to host some of the most influential people of the world of business and politics:

  • Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Minister of Development
  • Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice
  • Aruna Jayanthi, CEO, Capgemini Business Services
  • Hannes Apitzsch, CEO of Global Services, Siemens AG
  • Kerry Hallard, CEO, National Outsourcing Association Director, European Outsourcing Association
  • Sean Kracklauer, President Advisory Services and Research, The Hackett Group
  • Katarzyna Zawodna, President, Skanska Commercial Development Europe
  • Till Dudler, Managing Director, Industry Lead for Consumer Goods & Services for Europe, Africa and Latin America, Accenture Strategy

Them, along with many others present at the Conference, shared their thoughts and insights into the newest megatrends and directions the industry should be heading in.

In case you wish to relive some of the best moments of the Conference, below we have prepared a special gallery with a selection of photos, which will be broadened in the next few days.

Transformation – the idea behind it all

The topic of this year’s Conference was “Transforming Ourselves. Changing the World”. The presentations revolved around the notion of moving forward via change, and answered questions such as: is robotics necessary? How can we use it? What challenges will we face soon and how to deal with them? We have touched on many important subjects along those two days. In case you want to refresh the ideas we were presented with, below you will be able to find the presentations from our esteemed speakers. They will be coming in the span of a couple of days, so stay tuned.

The Annual ABSL Report is live

The report is available both in Polish and in English on our website under Publications.

Here are some highlights from it:

  • The sector employs 212 thousand people in Poland
  • 25% growth from last year
  • 91% of centres operating in Poland plan to expand their employment in the next year
  • At this rate of growth, employment is predicted to reach 300 thousand by 2020
  • 936 centres currently operate in Poland, out of which 676 are foreign centres
ABSL Talent Race

On Day 0, we hosted ABSL Talent Race, organised by ABSL and Absolvent. The event turned to be an amazing success. During the race, 50 talented students and young graduates cooperated with leading representatives of the business world, culture, and public institutions of Poland in advice and development-oriented workshops.

The winner of the competition was Group 6, RatRacers, composed of Adrian Kruk, Greta Wikiera, Damian Podgórski and Dorota Nowaczewska, who delivered a presentation about moving forward to a digital hiring model.

ABSL Start-Up Challenge

The grand finale of the first edition of ABSL Start-Up Challenge took place on the main stage during Day 2. Nine brilliant young entrepreneurs presented their pitches in front of the audience consisting of over 400 Conference attendees, and the Jury.

The Jury members – Janusz Dziurzyński, Terri Gerosa, Marek Grodziński, Wojciech Popławski and Szymon Sikorski – decided on the projects they believe have the most potential to go global. The task was not easy, but the winners were:

  • Grinfy, in the category Analytics & Big Data – an application that aims to conserve the power used by idle computers
  • HospiCare, in Customer & Employee Experience – an application for amassing the healthcare information about home hospices patients to exchange between them and the care providers
  • Zapakuj.to, in Robotics & Process Automation – a service dedicated to small and medium e-commerce providers, giving them a chance to order small amounts of personalised packaging

Zapakuj.to was also the winner of the Audience Choice award. With this event, ABSL launches a long-term platform that will connect corporations and start-ups, in order to help each other grow and transform.
